A coalition of women under the aegis of Renewed Hope Women of Faith in Politics has intensified mobilisation in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The gathering, held in Port Harcourt, attracted participants from diverse religious and political backgrounds, reflecting the group’s interfaith orientation and its emphasis on unity, national development and grassroots engagement.
Powered by Rivers Women Unite for SIM, the initiative was described as a strategic platform aimed at uniting women across the country as a formidable bloc committed to prayer, advocacy and civic responsibility.
Convener of the group, Amaopuorubo Sotonye Toby, said the movement is conceived as a nationwide network of women dedicated to interceding for Nigeria’s peace, stability and good governance. She stressed that prayer remains a critical tool for national transformation, particularly in challenging times.
According to her, women’s contributions to nation-building remain indispensable, especially in a multicultural society like Nigeria, where they play pivotal roles across sectors including education, business, entrepreneurship and politics, alongside family responsibilities.
“In our diversity lies our strength. As women of faith, we must unite across religious and political lines to build a stronger, more inclusive Nigeria,” she said.
Toby noted that beyond its spiritual focus, the initiative is anchored on active civic participation, particularly at the grassroots, with a view to mobilising and empowering women while amplifying their voices in the quest for peace and development.
Reaffirming the group’s political alignment, she declared support for Tinubu’s re-election bid, aligning the movement with the ideals of the All Progressives Congress and its Renewed Hope agenda.
“We recognise the need for continuity in leadership and the importance of supporting governance that promotes stability, growth and national development. As women, we stand firmly behind the President as we look ahead to 2027,” she stated.
She also underscored the transformative potential of collective female action, noting that societies are strengthened and communities healed when women unite around a shared vision.
Toby commended participants for their commitment and resilience, urging them to remain steadfast as pillars of faith and hope amid national challenges. She called on women at all levels—from ward to national—to actively participate in shaping Nigeria’s future.
She further lauded the leadership of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, alongside the President, for what she described as their commitment to governance and development.
The event ended with a renewed call for unity among women of all faiths and sustained prayers for Nigeria’s peace, prosperity and stability.
Observers note that the rise of faith-based political platforms such as Renewed Hope Women of Faith in Politics signals a growing trend in grassroots mobilisation, with women increasingly asserting their influence in Nigeria’s political and developmental landscape ahead of future elections.
