No fewer than 3,584 members of the 2026 Batch B Stream II of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have taken the oath of allegiance at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, formally commencing their mandatory national service.
The corps members, comprising 1,421 males and 2,163 females, were sworn in by the Chief Judge of Rivers State, represented by Justice Godspower Aguma, during the official opening of the orientation course.
Addressing the ceremony, Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, assured the corps members that they occupy a strategic place in his administration’s Rivers First Agenda and would continue to enjoy adequate welfare and security while serving in the state.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Promise Oguzie, the governor urged the corps members to conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of the scheme and remain committed to nation-building.
“You are an integral part of the Rivers First Agenda. Be role models and quality nation-builders in your service to the people of Rivers State and Nigeria,” he said, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to their welfare and security.
Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, urged the corps members to see their deployment to Rivers State as an opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the state’s development and national progress.
He charged them to uphold integrity, discipline and the fear of God throughout their service year, particularly if called upon to serve as ad hoc personnel for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the 2027 general elections.
Oleghe also appealed to the state government to approve the release of funds for the immediate construction of separate 1,000-capacity hostels for male and female corps members at the permanent orientation camp.
