Rivers Assembly Stands Firm On Fubara’s Impeachment

The Rivers State House of Assembly has reaffirmed its resolve to proceed with the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, dismissing calls for a halt to the process.

Addressing journalists at a press conference in Port Harcourt on Friday, the lawmakers accused the governor of violating provisions of the 1999 Constitution, insisting that the Assembly was left with no option but to invoke its constitutional powers to remove him from office.

The legislators further alleged that Governor Fubara had engaged in acts of blackmail and no longer enjoyed the trust required to meaningfully resolve the political crisis currently unsettling the state.

They maintained that the impeachment process was lawful, constitutional and devoid of any ethnic or sectional agenda, urging the public to disregard claims suggesting otherwise.

According to the Assembly, the decision to press ahead with the impeachment was taken in the overall interest of constitutional order and democratic governance in Rivers State.
