Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has welcomed the defection of several members of the National Assembly from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as courageous and reflective of a forward-looking commitment to the development of the state and the country.
In a statement signed by
Boniface Onyedi, Senior Special Assistant (Media), to the governor, Sir Fubara commended the lawmakers for what he described as a bold political decision aimed at consolidating a united front capable of advancing Rivers State’s interests within the framework of national governance.
Among those who defected are Senators Allwell Onyesoh (Rivers East) and Barinada Mpigi (Rivers South-East), as well as members of the House of Representatives, including Dumnamene Dekor, Solomon Bob, Cyril Hart, Victor Obuzor, Blessing Amadi and Felix Nwaeke.
Fubara also praised the lawmakers for aligning with earlier defectors who had declared support for his administration and the APC. These include Boniface Emerengwa, Awaji-Inombek Abiante and Boma Goodhead, who joined the APC from the PDP, as well as Umezuruike Manuchim, who defected from the Labour Party.
According to the governor, the latest defections go beyond routine political realignment, noting that they reinforce his earlier decision to join the APC and signal the emergence of a cohesive and strategic political bloc in Rivers State.
He said the growing alignment would enhance the state’s capacity to access opportunities for accelerated growth, inclusive development and long-term sustainability by strengthening its integration into the centre of national power.
Fubara further observed that the expanding coalition reflects what he described as the ongoing transformation under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Expressing confidence in the direction of current reforms, the governor said the increasing support base in Rivers State would contribute meaningfully to their success.
He reaffirmed his commitment to mobilising support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections and called on residents of the state to embrace the APC in the interest of peace, stability and development.
