US Lawmaker To Brief White House On How To Protect Christians In Nigeria

United States Congressman, Rep. Riley Moore, has said he will soon brief the White House and present policy options on how to protect Christians facing persecution in Nigeria.

Moore disclosed this in a statement posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, in reaction to remarks by Bishop Robert Barron highlighting the persistent killings of Christians in parts of Nigeria.

“Thank you, Bishop Barron, for shedding light on how our brothers and sisters in Christ are being persecuted for their faith in Nigeria,” Moore said.

“Thanks for the shout-out. You’re right — I will be briefing the White House on this topic very soon to give them options on how to protect Christians in Nigeria.”

The congressman said the planned briefing would build on recent legislative actions by the US House of Representatives, including the passage of the Fiscal Year 2026 National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs (NSRP) bill.

According to him, the bill is designed to protect US national security interests while upholding humanitarian values and safeguarding religious freedom globally.

Moore added that the House Appropriations Committee would soon submit a detailed report to President Donald Trump on the situation in Nigeria.

“In addition to our recently passed FY26 NSRP bill, the House Appropriations Committee will soon deliver a report to President Donald Trump on the situation in Nigeria — laying out the facts, oversight findings, and leadership options,” he said.

The statement underscores growing attention within the US Congress to religious freedom concerns and security challenges in Nigeria, particularly the plight of Christian communities affected by violence.
