Rivers Political Storm: APC Rejects Claims Of Backing Court Order On Impeachment

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly distanced itself from reports alleging that the party urged the Chief Justice to comply with a court order seeking the suspension of impeachment proceedings against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, insisting that no such position emanated from its leadership or official channels.

Clarifying the party’s stance during an interview on TVC, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, dismissed the reports as unauthorised and misleading, stressing that they did not represent the views of the ruling party.

His intervention comes amid heightened political tension in Rivers State, where the House of Assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara, a development widely seen as a delicate test for the APC.

Responding to a question on whether the party had issued a statement asking the Chief Justice to act on a court order halting the impeachment process, Morka was unequivocal. He denied issuing or endorsing any such statement, underscoring his position as the party’s official spokesperson.

“If you say a public statement, the last I checked, if I may, I am Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of APC,” he said, making it clear that no communication of that nature was released from his office.

Morka further carpeted the circulation of what he described as unverified statements, explaining that the APC has established internal procedures for issuing official positions.

According to him, only statements disseminated through recognised party structures and authorities should be regarded as authentic.

“I didn’t publish such a statement, and I’m not in the business of confirming statements that are sourced from elsewhere,” he said, adding that his responsibility is to validate only communications formally issued by the legitimate organs of the party.

On the specific report linking the APC to the alleged request to the Chief Justice, Morka maintained that the party would not be drawn into conjecture. “The statement you referred to, I cannot confirm or deny it because it didn’t come from my office,” he stated.

The clarification effectively carpets the Rivers APC crisis narrative being attributed to the national leadership, as the party seeks to manage the political fallout from the unfolding impeachment saga without being seen as interfering in judicial or legislative processes.
