Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the state has reached about 70 per cent, as he directed his political loyalists to fully align with the President’s second-term bid.
The governor made the declaration on Thursday while inaugurating the Ogbakiri Junction–Waterfront Road in Emohua Local Government Area.
Fubara disclosed that following a recent strategic meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he was asked to mobilise his supporters across Rivers State in support of President Tinubu.
Describing Tinubu’s re-election as a key political task ahead, the governor assured APC leaders that his camp possessed the “right foot soldiers” to deliver the required support in the state.
“From what I am seeing here today, with the support of the local government chairman, the chiefs and the people, our job is already 70 per cent done,” Fubara said, pointing to the large turnout of residents as evidence that mobilisation had gained strong momentum.
He commended a prominent Ogbakiri leader, Chief David Omereji, for his unwavering support, expressing confidence that Omereji’s political structure would work seamlessly with his own supporters to achieve the goal.
The governor also urged residents to sustain peace in their communities, stressing that a peaceful environment remained critical to spreading development across Rivers State. He appealed to the people to protect government and federal assets within their communities, including educational institutions and infrastructure.
“The task ahead may look big, but it is simple because we have already started,” Fubara said. “Transfer your support to the success of our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
On the inaugurated road project, Fubara described it as particularly significant, noting that it was conceived and funded during one of the most challenging periods of his administration, including a time when the state faced restrictions in accessing federal allocations.
According to him, the completion of the Ogbakiri Junction–Waterfront Road was a testament to his administration’s commitment to service delivery and keeping promises, despite economic and political challenges.
He further assured the community that his government would consider requests for additional internal roads and a bridge to improve connectivity and boost commercial activities.
Fubara praised the Ogbakiri community for embracing peace, noting that their cooperation with contractors and rejection of violence had directly contributed to the level of development now being witnessed.
“This is a community once known for crisis,” he said. “Today, your story has changed, and development has followed peace.”
