Four Rivers Federal Lawmakers Defect To APC

Four lawmakers from Rivers State in the House of Representatives have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Their defection comes about one week after Governor Siminalayi Fubara joined the ruling party.

The members are Manuchim Umezuruike, representing Port Harcourt 1 Federal Constituency; Boniface Emerengwa, representing Ikwerre/Emuoha Federal Constituency; Awake-Inombek Abiante, representing Andoni/Opobo Federal Constituency; and Boma Goodhead, representing Asari-Toru Federal Constituency.

The federal lawmakers who defected are said to be loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who also moved to the APC last week.

The lawmakers, who were previously affiliated with the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have now aligned themselves with the ruling party.

Umezuruike Manuchim, representing Port Harcourt I, made the move from the LP to APC. In addition, Boniface Emerengwa, Awaji-Inombek Abiante, and Boma Goodhead, who represent Ikwerre/Emohua, Opobo/Nkoro/Andoni, and Akuku-Toru/Asari-Toru constituencies, respectively, switched from the PDP to the APC.

The defections were formally announced during Thursday’s plenary session when Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read out the defection letters.
