Rivers LG Polls: Empowerment, Security Top Campaign Promises

As political parties and their candidates prepare for the August 30, 2025 local government elections in Rivers State, issues of economic empowerment, provision of security and general well-being of the people are top of the promises sold to voters in various local government areas of the state.

KHANA:
The Khana All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmanship Candidate for the August 30th Local Government Elections, Dr. Thomas Bariere, DSSRS, has declared that his second term in office will usher in a new phase of economic revolution in Khana.

Dr. Bariere made this known at the grand finale of the Khana APC Local Government Election Campaign held today in Bori, the traditional headquarters of Ogoni land.

According to a statement signed by the Dr. Thomas Bariere Media Directorate, the chairmanship candidate noted that while his first tenure was largely dedicated to tackling insecurity and restoring peace, his next administration would focus on driving sustainable economic growth and improving the livelihoods of the people.

“The greatest challenge we had before now as a local government was insecurity. In the past three years, we fought insecurity to a standstill, restored peace, and returned our people to their homes. It is now important that we grow our economy. Politics as a way of life must translate into economic ideas that put money in the pockets of our people,” he stated.

Highlighting his economic blueprint, Dr. Bariere promised to establish the Khana Local Government Microfinance Bank to provide loans and grants to support small and medium enterprises, thereby creating jobs and empowering local businesses.

He also promised to set up the Khana LGA Transportation Company to ease the burden of high transport fares and improve mobility for residents and Invest in electricity infrastructure by expanding power supply beyond Bori into rural communities in order to stimulate commerce and industrial growth.

The APC chairmanship candidate also promised to enrol all paramount rulers across communities in Khana into the council’s payroll to strengthen grassroots leadership and enhance community policing.

Dr. Thomas Bariere emphasized that these initiatives are aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritizes economic empowerment, youth employment, and infrastructural renewal.

“Khana is one of the richest local governments in terms of natural resources. Our duty is to convert that wealth into real development that touches every household. We shall put food on the tables of our people, create jobs, and open up new opportunities,” he assured.

He therefore urged the people of Khana to come out en masse on August 30th and vote massively for the APC to consolidate peace and usher in an era of economic transformation.

The State Chairman of the APC, Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha, in his remarks, hailed the large turnout at the campaign rally, describing it as an affirmation that Khana is APC.

ELEME:
In a similar development, the Chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the August 30 Rivers State Local Government Elections in Eleme, Obarilomate Ollor, assured the people of Eleme that his second term will focus on consolidating his first-tenure achievements and delivering sustainable development.

Speaking at the official flag-off of the APC campaign in Eleme, Chief Ollor highlighted his priorities: security, empowerment, employment, education, and infrastructure development.

A statement from the office of the Campaign Media Director, said chief Ollor, expressed appreciation to the leader of Rivers State politics, Chief Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, for uniting major political stakeholders across party lines, promising to sustain the Renewed Hope structure in Eleme.

Chief Ollor reaffirmed his commitment to tackling Eleme’s electricity challenge with a sustainable strategy that will ensure a steady power supply. On security, he issued a stern warning to criminal elements in the area, urging them to either desist or vacate within 24 hours.

On education, he pledged to provide adequate seating and learning facilities across all government primary schools in Eleme. For youths, and vowed to ensure that companies operating within the LGA employ and empower locals in the area.

Director-General of the APC Campaign in Eleme, Hon. Frederick Oyor described Chief Ollor as the right candidate to consolidate on his remarkable achievements—including the Eleme Motor Park, Eteo Market, Onne Civic Centre, enhanced security, and bursary payments. He urged Eleme people to come out en masse on August 30 to vote for the APC candidate.

Also speaking, APC Chairman in Eleme, Emere Phylle Te-Nwaji, appealed to party faithfuls and the electorate to support Chief Ollor’s “second missionary journey,” assuring that his re-election will usher in greater development.

Earlier, the campaign train did a brief stopover at the Palace King Philip Osaro Obele JP. Oneh-eh Eta Eleme in council to seek the blessings and endorsement of Eleme Council of Chiefs before progressing to the campaign ground.

Goodwill messages were delivered by prominent Eleme leaders, including Hon. Marcus Nle Ejii, Chief Ejor N. Ejor, Hon. Aforji Igwe, and Hon. Fred Igwe, who all expressed confidence in Chief Ollor’s leadership and urged the people to vote overwhelmingly for him, his running mate Mrs. Virtue Ekee and all APC councillorship candidates.

GOKANA:
In Gokana Local Government Area, the APC flag bearer for the chairmanship position, Confidence Nyima Deko told a crowd of enthusiastic supporters, mainly youths, that his second term in office would be beneficial to them. He said the payment of bursary awards to students would remain a sacrosanct policy of his second term, amongst other developments.

At the Rainbow Coalition APC Rally held in Ayama, Abua Cenral in Abua/Odual LGA, the chairmanship candidate, Owolobi Michael Ofori promised to sustain and improve security in Abua/Odual.

According to him, while addressing the crowd that turned up for the APC rally, security remains the bedrock to a sustainable development. He promised that the citizenry would sleep with their eyes closed all through his tenure while soliciting for their votes.

At the rally, all the 13 ward Councilorship candidates received their flags.

ANDONI:
Former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani has called on voters in the Andoni Local Government Area to support the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the forthcoming local government elections.

The former speaker suggested that the state and particularly the council would be better empowered to withstand the economic storm in the country under the APC.

Ibani made the appeal while presenting the APC chairmanship candidate, Prince Lucky Promise Otuo, to the people of Ward 7 in Egbormung Town ahead of the August 30 polls.

He expressed confidence that the APC candidate would deliver effective grassroots governance and empower residents in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

The ex-Speaker said Otuo’s candidacy was the outcome of careful consideration by party stakeholders, describing him as a disciplined politician and people-oriented leader.

In his remarks, Otuo pledged to run an all-inclusive administration aimed at reducing hardship in Andoni through economic and social transformation.
